Boxee Box by D-Link (officially "D-Link Boxee Box DSM-380") is a Linux-based set-top device and media extender that first began shipping in 33 countries worldwide on 10 November 2010. Designed to easily bring Internet television and other video to the television via Boxee's software, it comes pre-installed with Boxee media center software. The hardware is based on the Intel CE4110 system-on-a-chip platform (that has a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom CPU with a PowerVR SGX535 integrated graphics processor), 1 GB of RAM, and 1 GB of NAND Flash Memory. The DM-380 features an HDMI port (version 1.3), optical digital audio (S/PDIF) out, an RCA connector for analog stereo audio, two USB ports, an SD card slot, wired 100 Mbit/s (100BASE-T) ethernet, and built-in 2.4 GHz 802.11n WiFi.

Several people have been working on cloning the boxee.tv servers since they were taken down, in an effort to restore functionality to everyone's Boxee Boxes. Happy to say that as of today there are multiple implementations out there, and that my public hosted version of this is online and available to use.

Boxee can not connect to the internet. (Nor wifi or nor ethernet)

I think there is no such a world-wide accident within a month...

A few days ago the symptom is the same on my 8 years old Boxee box as well.

Perhaps there will be someone who adept enough to resolve this problem. It seems to me there is no one so far.

I have luck, since a few years ago I made a Boxee hack, so I can run on my Box as media player with KODI.
The Kodi is located on SD card so it was a choice of mine to use Boxee or Kodi. (I prefer more often Boxee rather than Kodi.)

To take a hack now is not possible since the Boxee useless without of successful login.

Some days ago my loved Boxee Box could not connect to internet. At first I thought there is some setting problem. I tried my Wifi (it can see my wifi router) and I tried wired, but nothing. It can connect to wifi (it said) but there is not internet, and it can see the ethernet wire also, but there is no internet also. I tried a factory reset, but when it ask me to connect the internet, the error is the same.

↑vid with slideshow + annoying TTS narration, shows the easiest modification in order to use the boxee remote on a PC/Mac/tablet/phone. it took me 15 minutes to peel the layers off the Boxee box and take out the remote control (pcb)module, then it took 15 minutes to add a cut USB cable to the (pcb)module. works.

game system for emulators/home arcade

is it possible to hack the boxee to become something of a game system for emulators/home arcade? kind of like a raspberry Pi?

i have this exact unit of boxee and have little use for a home entertainment system that almost all the boxee’s are being hacked into. would rather game system it if it’s even possible..

Is there anyway to bypass setup for Boxee?

So I have a Boxee (yes I know from the prehistoric ages), I only use it to stream content from my Nas. Not sure what happened but, the other day, Boxee kept asking me to login / register (I do have an account), but was able to login. I did a factory reset and now during setup I keep getting the error "An ethernet cord is plugged in, but configuration failed". I assume that all the that the Box is trying to connect to server that have has probably been killed off.. Is there anyway to get into the box to make it useable? I have briefly looked at Boxee + Hacks but installation requires you to actually be able to get to network settings.

In June 2019 the Boxee Box control servers at boxee.tv were taken offline. This application functions as a simple replacement for the boxee.tv application, restoring only enough functionality for normal use of a Boxee Box.

New Boxee behaviour post Boxee cloud server shutdown.

Since the shutdown, there's been no Netflix, no apps, but I've been using it successfully as a local media player.
Five minutes ago, turned it on, after I used the power button on the boxee to shut it down a couple of hours ago, and there's been a new 'saying' that's been popping up.
"Something something, failed to connect, something something after establishing connection back on the internet."
Which is fine.
But again, just turning it on, it went to the 'user' screen, and I had two user accounts (bought it that way, no idea as to actual passwords or whatever).
There used to be two user accounts, both with generic person avatars, now I have one that is a skull. Won't connect.
Luckily? the other account still works. Not sure of any sort of new server activity, but the next thing I have definitely done is block all internet access for the boxee.
I just can't risk some sort of server kill code wiping out the remaining working account.
I had that alternate DNS hack still active as a DNS on my router, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with this recent change, but I'm not going to risk it.

Samsung willfully disabled these boxes

What I find astonishing is that Samsung willfully disabled these boxes. Surely a patch to locally emulate server handshake would have been politic rather than just switch the server off arbitrarily? My Iomega box would have been crippled without the ability to handshake with your server, leaving me without the ability to play my collection.

boxee will not connect to the internet

My boxee will not connect to the internet. I have done a factory reset and cannot get past the initial set up because it can find my network but not connect to the internet. Any ideas?

Boxee public server is a success!

This is confirm that your server dns works very well. I have a boxee that I had reset and since then I could never log in. With your server installed on a local machine and this ip included in the router, I was able to finally access the login and be able to install Boxee + Hack and then Kodi.

Don't throw your Boxee Boxes away just yet

Yesterday I started sniffing traffic from my Boxee Box in hopes of developing a fake boxee server to replace the official servers that just went down. But then I thought maybe someone has already done this. Turns out "cigamit", who used to help with Boxee Hacks and ran boxeed.in forums, was already working on this years ago.

Hacking a Boxee Box

I recently purchased an Amazon Fire TV Stick and love that it allows the ability to sideload applications like Kodi (I still hate that name, long live XBMC!) for media streaming. I mainly use Samba/SMB shares on my network for my media, with most of my content living on an old WDTV Live Hub. The WDTV Hub works great and is still pretty stable after all of these years (except for a few built-in apps like YouTube, I wish they kept going with updates), and the Fire TV will gladly chug away, playing any video over the network. However, I had the need to have my media stream to a third television and I didn’t want to uproot an existing device and carry it from room to room.

Restart Boxee with no wifi/network present

I am at my cottage and just reset the boxee in error. It is now walking me through the start up process and I get stuck on the network set up page. 

We have no internet connection availalble (wifi or ethernet). 

Is it possible to set up or do I need to take it home and reset it when wifi is available?

latest firmware (1.5.1), since this hack has only been tested with that version. Particularly some skin features are used that will probably not work on older Boxee builds, and even may leave your box in an unbootable state, requiring you to do a factory reset.
