Boxee cloned server updates, working server information, options to keep your box alive

Several people have been working on cloning the boxee.tv servers since they were taken down, in an effort to restore functionality to everyone's Boxee Boxes. Happy to say that as of today there are multiple implementations out there, and that my public hosted version of this is online and available to use.

Quick rundown:

Bringing a Boxee Box back from the dead STEP-BY-STEP

Bringing a Boxee Box back from the dead

So last weekend I found my old Boxee Box on a shelf in the basement and I decided to try and get it back up and running. In my troubleshooting efforts, I decided to go ahead and do a Factory Reset – BIG MISTAKE! The following guide outlines the steps I took to bring this cute little toy back from the dead!

Boxee hack in 2022

I think I finally gave up on this piece of crap today. I have had it for YEARS and everytime it struggled with finding SMB server on Windows. Sure sometimes after 10x reboot of Windows + Boxee etc. it could be found. I have put countless hours trying to get this thing to find the server reliably. (even though other devices could find it perfectly fine)

Now with the "No access to the internet" since they stopped paying for their pinging-server (I could still browse the net via the browser with Boxee) I am done.. I tried to factory reset but now it doesn't want to boot into the menu anymore due to lack of internet connection (keep in mind that both wired and the wireless works) Sure I can do the DNS hack.. but that doesn't fix the fact Boxee always struggles to find the server in question.

New cloned Boxee IP address

ATTENTION: New cloned Boxee IP address
Unfortunately I had to reset the IP address on my boxee clone instance. This should be the only time this happens.

Boxee can not connect to the internet. (Nor wifi or nor ethernet)

I think there is no such a world-wide accident within a month...

A few days ago the symptom is the same on my 8 years old Boxee box as well.

Perhaps there will be someone who adept enough to resolve this problem. It seems to me there is no one so far.

I have luck, since a few years ago I made a Boxee hack, so I can run on my Box as media player with KODI.
The Kodi is located on SD card so it was a choice of mine to use Boxee or Kodi. (I prefer more often Boxee rather than Kodi.)

To take a hack now is not possible since the Boxee useless without of successful login.

D-link Boxee Box Internet doesn't work

I had boxee+ hacks once upon a time and accidentally did a reset and then updated to v.1.5.1.23735-b6a5be1 Even though I'm connected to a DNS server and have a green boxee i cannot access any web page or get subtitles etc. What is wrong?

Help: My Boxee+ Hacked Boxee Box reverted to Factory defaults mode

Hey has anyone ever had a hacked Boxee Box just, for no reason, revert to being as if it's brand new? Mine has done this today, yesterday it was fine, turned it on and it booted up. But today I turn it on and it's booting into standard Boxee Box load screen and asking to pick a language!!

Have I basically lost everything on it?

GETTING BOXEEBOX ROOT AND MAKING IT USEFUL AGAIN

When it was released just three years ago, the Boxee Box – a set-top box designed to run the Boxee HTPC environment – was a pretty cool little device. Even though it was somewhat crippled from the get-go, the Boxee Box had a lot of neat features including a remote with a QWERTY keyboard, the ability to stream media over a home network, and automatic scraping of IMDB for proper info for all your torrented media. Team Boxee recently left for Samsung, http://www.boxee.tv/   and the severs have been shut down, but that doesn’t mean your Boxee Box has outlived its usefulness. Here’s a few hacks to get your Boxee Box up and running again, sent in by [Ryan].

Boxee can not connect to the internet. (Nor wifi or nor ethernet

Some days ago my loved Boxee Box could not connect to internet. At first I thought there is some setting problem. I tried my Wifi (it can see my wifi router) and I tried wired, but nothing. It can connect to wifi (it said) but there is not internet, and it can see the ethernet wire also, but there is no internet also. I tried a factory reset, but when it ask me to connect the internet, the error is the same.

solution for Boxee Box is ROOT IT, not holding my breath for a "Server" clone

The REAL solution for Boxee Box is ROOT IT, not holding my breath for a "Server" clone

I've been hearing about a replacement D-Link Server for Boxee Box for over 5 years now. My wife worked at D-Link USA for nearly 18 years and the execs there laughed at the idea a cloned server is even possible. Besides, how long will someone (if they could make something work) keep it running, who's going to cover the expenses and who can afford a "pipe" (big bandwidth connection) that will be required for all the BB users??

Boxee D-Link RF remote / remote USB mod

RF remote / remote USB mod:

↑vid with slideshow + annoying TTS narration, shows the easiest modification in order to use the boxee remote on a PC/Mac/tablet/phone. it took me 15 minutes to peel the layers off the Boxee box and take out the remote control (pcb)module, then it took 15 minutes to add a cut USB cable to the (pcb)module. works.

D-Link Boxee Box Netflix app

has anyone come up with a method to update the Netflix app? Issue I’m having since Netflix went to version 4.0 (BOXEE is 3.0xx) Dolby Digital Is no longer available. Just curious if anyone found a way to do this. Thanks – BTW, Dolby Digital and DTS work just fine with all other sources.

game system for emulators/home arcade

is it possible to hack the boxee to become something of a game system for emulators/home arcade? kind of like a raspberry Pi?

i have this exact unit of boxee and have little use for a home entertainment system that almost all the boxee’s are being hacked into. would rather game system it if it’s even possible..

Wiki Boxee

This page will be dedicated to a general overview, descriptions, and information related to the Boxee media player.

The Boxee Box (DSM-380) is made by D-Link and features an Intel CE4100 SOC (Intel Atom CE4170).

It is quite similiar in function to that (security wise) of the Logitech Revue, or Gen 1 Sony Google TV boxes.

Is there anyway to bypass setup for Boxee?

So I have a Boxee (yes I know from the prehistoric ages), I only use it to stream content from my Nas. Not sure what happened but, the other day, Boxee kept asking me to login / register (I do have an account), but was able to login. I did a factory reset and now during setup I keep getting the error "An ethernet cord is plugged in, but configuration failed". I assume that all the that the Box is trying to connect to server that have has probably been killed off.. Is there anyway to get into the box to make it useable? I have briefly looked at Boxee + Hacks but installation requires you to actually be able to get to network settings.
