I think I finally gave up on this piece of crap today. I have had it for YEARS and everytime it struggled with finding SMB server on Windows. Sure sometimes after 10x reboot of Windows + Boxee etc. it could be found. I have put countless hours trying to get this thing to find the server reliably. (even though other devices could find it perfectly fine)
Now with the "No access to the internet" since they stopped paying for their pinging-server (I could still browse the net via the browser with Boxee) I am done.. I tried to factory reset but now it doesn't want to boot into the menu anymore due to lack of internet connection (keep in mind that both wired and the wireless works) Sure I can do the DNS hack.. but that doesn't fix the fact Boxee always struggles to find the server in question.
I'll probably just buy a new HTPC or something.
SOLUTION ::
It's just not worth it to keep it running unfortunately with how old it is at this point. I found even 5+ years ago it started struggling with higher quality videos.
Just get a raspberry pi and put Kodi on it (I use LibreElec) for local media. It's orders of magnitude better, and can do 4k.
